Where is all this money coming from? The nation GOP is taking a 5 million dollar loan, from where? I don’t know, to help out its candidates in the Senate races. Many GOP Senators are in danger of losing their seats to Democrats, and I am happy about that. The Republicans had six years of complete control in the White House, and we can see where that has gotten us. Let’s give the other side a chance and see what they can do.
Now, I am not saying that they will do a better job (and if anyone wants they can look at the current record of Congress–barely dominated by Dems–and say that we will be worse off), but it is worth a try, especially if they get a larger majority which will allow them to put more things into effect.
The idea of an all Democrat Congress coupled with a Democratic President probably sends some people running for cover. They see it as the end of the world, and America as we know it. Just like there are those of us who see an all Republican administration as something less than good.
But back to the matter at hand? I thought the country was in a financial crisis. Obama has broken fundraising records, all candidates are spending copius amounts of cash on the election (that’s they way politics go in this day and age). How is it possible that we can spend all this money, and still be in a crisis. This is like the addict who cannot give up his/her substance (in this case, politicking) and yet still complains that they don’t have enough money to pay their rent or buy their children food.
I think it is time that we stop this emphasis on money in elections. Set a limit, no more than that can be spent by anyone. Candidates (Republican or Democrat or Independent) should not be able to buy elections. By making money the focue of elections we go against the very tennants this country is founded on. How can we expect people to believe that they can be President, or a Senator, or a Governor, or a Representative if it just boils down to money? If you don’t have the cash, you can’t get elected, simple as that. This needs to change, and elections need to become more about the issues and solutions, and less about the almighty dollar.
