He wants to create 2.5 million jobs in road construction, school rebuilding/development and finding alternative energy source by the year 2011. Two years is a long time to wait for new government created jobs, but hopefully it won’t all have to wait until 2011. I for one think this is a great idea, and I dig that he is already starting to outline plans and take steps to help the nation recover from its current crises.
The road will not be easy as Republicans will probably seek to block actions that they will undoubtedly see as “socialist” and Democrats will try to attach things to the solutions that will not necesarrily be relevant–like better gun control–which will anger Republicans even more. It has the potential to be a viscious cirlce and stop any real change or plans for moving forward and solving the problems.
Still, one can hope that our leaders will learn to work together and set their petty differences to the side in an attempt to a solution and help the American people. That is their job, whether they want to admit it or not, and both sides have been doing a pretty crappy job for the past seven or so years. All I know is that if they had to undergo performance reviews, like most working Americans in the private sector do, they would have long ago found themselves in the unemployment line. As it is, they come up for review (re-election) every four years or so, and we continue to give them a free pass. It is time that they started working for our imterests, not theirs, and I’ll keep saying it to beyond the point of redundancy, it is time for us to hold them accountable.
If all sides continue to play petty politics and do nothing more than secure their own interests, all the while claiming they are working for the American people, then we have to show them it will not be tolerated and kick them out. They have the power to make laws and policies, but we have the power to kick them out if we don’t agree. If the politicians are going to act like politics is a reality show, then we need to start treating them that way and start kicking people off. Maybe then they would get the message that America is more than just large corporations, lobbyists, and politicians. A pipe dream? Maybe, but that doens’t mean it’s not possible.
