TV Zombies

Watching this right now. It’s pretty good once you get past the fact that it’s British (it’s a joke people, stop being so serious all of the time) and the zombies are maybe a little on the fast side of things.

Overall it was entertaining and had lots and lots of blood and guts (as any good zombie flick should), a shit ton of swearing, and the acting was solid, especially when one considers that not only is it British, but was made for British Television. The other thing that is kind of annoying, though it has nothing to do with the show itself really, is that at the beginning of every episode beyond the first (there are five total episodes) is the “previously on.” Now, there is nothing wrong with “previously on” segments, but the ones in Dead Set take over a minute, and there is simply no reason why they should take that long. Still, that’s a minor complaint and as I wrote before, really has nothing to do with the show itself.

They’ll make a song about anything these days…

Or at least videos set to songs about 80’s movies.

I think my favorite part of the song is when he says “I caught a crane kick to the face.” Just typing those words threatens to send me into gales of laughter and delight. It’s 1985 all over again and suddenly I want to learn karate and no longer mind washing the car (never had to wax it, and you can’t mind or not mind doing something that you have never done). Plus there is that irresistible urge to seek out some strange old Okinawan who would impart little nuggets  of wisdom as he taught me how to trim little and sometimes crooked trees, all while incessantly singing “You’re the Best Around.”

If you are reading this, and thank you if you are, I do appreciate it, you might be wondering why I decided to write this post. It seems irreverent and irrelevant (Lots of  double r words in this post, that’s at least three. Weird.), and it is.

There really is no other way to say it: There is no deeper meaning to this post. No new or interesting information, at least not what is coming from my mind to this web-page  (or at least I don’t think it’s really all that interesting to anyone who isn’t me) will be found here–the material written and composed by others is probably where all the truly interesting, engaging, thought-provoking information lies. Like this, for example, which just so happens to be the means by which I stumbled upon the video to which the first sentence of this post refers. (Wow, that’s some old-fashioned sentence construction right there, all official and stuffy–kind of like what I imagine British people to be like–which may have been an unconscious attempt to hold the readers’ (I know that there are at least two of you, so that’s what makes you plural and why the apostrophe comes after the s in readers’) fragile and vulnerable attention span.

This is the internet, after all, and there are just so many distractions, and with bosses and other people and things (wives, husbands, kittens you are starving to death so you don’t have to drown them) always hounding said readers it can be impossible to get and keep the reader’s attention. I know blog reading isn’t as exciting as fishing, but really, what is? I understand the importance of keeping the reader glued not only to the screen (That’s the easy part, most of us already live with our faces glued to interface screens, what I predict will be the future name of all computer and computer like products–Pads, GPS Tampon finders that make you crash, whatever) but also the importance of keeping them looking at the same page for more than two seconds. Big blocks of text and lots of links are probably not the best way to achieve the stated objective of keeping the reader’s (I’m sure I’ve lost all but one of you by this point, though their might be two of you out there still hanging on and reading–you should know who you are) attention, nor are strange syntax and near senseless babbling.

I said I understood the importance of the readers’ (in case there are still at least two of you out there) I never said I was good at it. And now, for those of you loyal and patient enough to read this through to the end, I present Sweep the Leg by No More Kings

I often feel like this

Not looking for sympathy, nor do I consider myself special because of it (though I am special…especially foolish*) but that doesn’t change the fact that this could be my theme song.

And if not that one then this one (despite the title it is not limited to the summer).

But then I get mad at myself for feeling sorry for myself and realize that this should be my theme song.

Or maybe this one, when I’m feeling frisky (which is somewhat ironic because I don’t really like the Beastie Boys, but the sun has to shine on a dog’s ass sometime).

*who other than a fool would post something so ridiculous and disconnected and nonsensical?
