Fred Thompson, failed would be President

So Fred Thompson is returning to his acting carerr, which is where he belongs and should have stayed in the first place. I remember laughing at the idea that Thompson could be the Republican Presidential Frontrunner–not because I knew anything about his policies (I still don’t)–but because it seems that if an actor is going to become a politician, then the Republican party is their party. Ronald Reagan and Ahnold spring to mind, though there probably have been others. I find this funny because the Republican party seems to elect former actors from Hollywood, while at the same time complaining about the liberal Hollywood elite. I guess this is just another case of, all you people are crazy moonbats, you know except for the ones on our team. I mean these are the same people that complain when celebrities voice their opinion about politics, and yet they often put celebrities into politics. That just does not make much sense to me.

But that wasn’t the real reason why I laughed. I found it ironic, sure, and irony is often humorous but the real reason I laughed is why anyone thought Thompson would be a good choice for President. Sure he often plays a no nonsense kind of tough guy in the movies, and he had had some previous experience as a Senator, but come on, who really thought that the District Attorney from Law & Order would really make a good president, or even get enough votes to make that a possibility?

Well, as it turns out, no one. Or at least close to no one. So good idea Fred, go back to television and movies where everything is scripted and easy to follow. After all, there is very little chance that anyone will defy your on-screen personality, and if they do you can always say whatever witty line is already written for you like “You messed up big time Jack, and you’re going to take this whole office with you. Now get back in that courtroom and the lawyer we all know you can be.”
